Viral Murals: Seattle Artists, Storefront Murals, and the Power of Art During Crisis
Seattle’s Murals During the COVID Crisis
Chatwin has published a full-color art book on Seattle's storefront murals during the COVID shutdown. This book celebrates the awesome community spirit of artists and small businesses and organizations coming together to make beauty in a time of crisis. Our intent is to give exposure to the artists in particular, and to the people who aid and support them, and to help document these works for the people of Seattle and elsewhere.
We received over 160 submissions from artists, whose work is celebrated in full color in this 224 page book, printed and bound here in Seattle. For many, this is the first time their work has appeared in a book.
Interested in helping? This project was a massive commitment and expense for our tiny company. It was started as a labor of love, and we never expect to break even. But if you like what we did, and are able to contribute, you can do so by clicking the order button and choosing “SUPPORT THE PROJECT.” With help from private donors, we were able to fund free copies of the book for every artist who requested one, and are now working to address the project deficit.
PLEASE NOTE: This book deals specifically with work inspired by & responding to the COVID pandemic (hence the title Viral Murals). The later group of murals that were created as part of, or in response to the BLM & other protests are distinct and deserve their own book. If you would like to support a book to document the protest murals, please contact us.
