AboutA CATALOG OF ORDINARY MADNESS:

Almost fifteen years in the making, Abel Debritto brings us the first comprehensive Charles Bukowski bio-bibliography. This massive volume (854 pages) was released in July of 2024.

Featuring hundreds of never-before-seen items, A Catalog of Ordinary Madness encompasses all known Bukowski publications, from a 1940 letter in Los Angeles Collegian to the most recent posthumous appearances, highlighting milestones like Post Office, Women, and Ham on Rye. This project chronicles Bukowski’s stormy journey through the little magazine and small press scene. Profusely illustrated with 100 pages of color plates showing both his classic works and his rarest appearances, this collection provides an important visual window into the Indie and sometimes underground presses that published his often-controversial work.

A Catalog of Ordinary Madness offers unique insight into Bukowski’s unremitting outpourings: editors and publishers alike share over 400 brand new stories about Bukowski’s involvement in their literary ventures, turning each entry into a lively, passionate tale. All in all, an unprecedented take on Bukowski’s work and a truly outstanding, systematic catalog of one of our most iconic writers ever.

This tome is not only the new standard bibliographic reference—it is an essential tool for every university research library, and a guide to any student, fan or scholar of Bukowski looking to understand the context and stories behind his life and work.

About EVERY PIECE OF THE PUZZLE:

Abel Debritto has compiled this additional work to accompany A Catalog of Ordinary Madness: A Complete Bio-Bibliography of the Works of Charles Bukowski, providing a thorough micro-level index to all of Bukowski’s published work–every poem, story, newspaper column, PLUS all the known unpublished work. All published work is cross-referenced to the Bibliography.

This is the first time a Bukowski book has included this level of information. Every Piece of the Puzzle is as comprehensive as it gets, including all unpublished poems (1252) and all uncollected poems (989). Hundreds of entries in the Bibliography make a direct reference to the Every Piece of the Puzzle

Anyone wanting to find out when and where a given poem or story was published, will want a copy of Every Piece of the Puzzle. Additionally, anyone wanting to find out if a poem or story was collected under a different title, will also want this index!

Abel Debritto is the author of Charles Bukowski. King of the Underground, published by Palgrave/MacMillan, and has edited six major Bukowski collections for Ecco/HarperCollins. His work and interviews have appeared in several literary and academic journals. Being an Iyengar yoga instructor has helped him to peacefully navigate the crazy yet mesmerizing waters of the Bukowski universe.
